Winning is the ultimate aspiration for student athletes, and to be able to transition their athleticism from middle school to high school can be quite a task. But for some athletes, this big leap in the level of competition isn’t altering their path of success. And for three student athletes at NHS, Isaiah Vohs, the fastest freshman in Indiana. Praise Oladipupo, leading tackler on the football team. And Blythe Walker, Upcoming Shortstop in softball. Their love for their individual sports has helped shape their identity for them, as well as crafting a special chemistry with their teammates as they lead the way to the future of NHS sports.
Isaiah Vohs: Fastest Freshman in the state
”The best moment was when I was running with the [cross country] team. When I got stung by a bee, the entire team stopped and asked If I were all right. I felt like the team community is really awesome, and our spaghetti dinners are really fun as well. And these moments want to make me want to get to my biggest goal, to go to the Olympic trials and to make the Olympics.”
Praise Oladipupo: The Leading Tackler
”I just love to hit, and it hypes me up for the games that we will play, and it helps me prepare. And this gives me the challenges to try to play what position is best for me cause last year I was not as good as an inside linebacker, so I improved my skills. This year, they tried me at outside linebacker and safety then put me back at inside linebacker.”
Blythe Walker: Big Time Hitter
”I would say mindset is my biggest goal, because I tell myself all the time, ‘Person over player.’ Being better as a person is always above being better as a player. I just need to keep on working hard and be the most accomplished person I can be. And this makes me look up to the seniors a lot, because they all have great attitudes. Whenever we have a practice, like when we are doing live pitching and batting practice, they too will also strike out, and it shows me that everybody can make mistakes. So it gives me a boost.”
