The NHS Riley Dance Marathon is rapidly approaching their final fundraising event. With the fundraiser on the horizon in March, the evening of the 7th to be exact, the club is working overtime in order to raise their last donations. Separated into six branches, each individual committee is responsible for a variety of duties. Here’s a deeper dive of the behind the scenes of RDM as the marathon nears:
Presidential Committee:
Run by Elizabeth Norris and Shelby Cooke, the presidential committee is in charge of the entirety of RDM. The presidents focus heavily on hosting meetings and overlooking the status of each committee.
“In the months leading up to the big fundraising event, we definitely do have more meetings and opportunities for the committees to be getting prepared,” Norris said.
Family Relations:
Leader Cloey Thomas, says that family relations is the heart of RDM. Being the committee who directly speaks with Riley families, family relations spends much of their time contacting patients and their parents all while spreading the joy and message of RDM.
Promotions:
The promotions committee focuses on promoting RDM on platforms like Instagram and TikTok. The committee is run by Yati Patel and Reese Resmer. The social media accounts serve as an outlet to receive more donations from a wider audience.
“In promotions, our main goal is to spread the word about Noblesville RDM,” Patel said. “We constantly brainstorm content that aligns with our current fundraising initiatives and goals and then create the content.”
Fundraising:
The fundraising committee is responsible for the main money-making of RDM. As their name suggests, they focus on hosting and planning fundraisers throughout the year. March is heavily spent on finding students who may be interested in attending the dance. It is led by Macie Duvall and Holly Jordan.
“In March, we try to get students to sign up to attend the dance. We also push for every member to send out their personal fundraising pages to family and friends,” Duvall said. “All those sales and donations go directly to the donation total.”
Catering:
Run by Addie Alvis and Presley White, the catering committee spends their time finding restaurants who are interested in serving food to RDM at the marathon event.
“The catering team is responsible for collecting food donations and securing sponsorships for the event day,” White said. “A typical workday involves reaching out to local food vendors to gauge their interest in supporting the event.”
Morale:
Led by Caidey Swart and Soren McLaughlin, the morale committee is especially important during marathon season. In charge of the “fun” aspects to the marathon, morale spends plenty of time preparing their annual dance that is performed the night of the fundraiser.
“Our morale committee definitely meets the most during that time period so that the dance is finalized in time,” Norris said.
