For a coach, leading a team is not always the easiest task, let alone a team you’ve never been with before. When it comes to football, it can be especially difficult with so many different players and positions. However, when one has lots of experience, alongside many accolades, it can lead to an increase of trust within the team and within a community.
Noblesville’s new football head coach John Hebert coached at Carmel for the last ten years, where he delivered two state championships in 2016 and 2019. Now, he enters his next chapter in which he will lead the charge for a new group of men ready for the future.
“Everybody is ready to turn the page. So getting to work everyday and setting our sights for improvement makes us ready to play for the here and the now, and not the past,” Hebert said.
The players have started to see it as well. Alongside Hebert’s observations of the team’s desire to improve, running back Luke Hile has experienced what it is going to be like to have a new coach in the program.
“The chemistry has really improved in our team, through [both] our tough workouts and new culture-building strategies off the field,” Hile said.
As the team builds more of its formation, Hebert looks to bring a new mentality to the program that can lead to positivity. In addition, he also seeks to have the team enjoy the moments to come this season.
”We want to have great energy, have a positive outlook, and approach different things,” Hebert said. “We want to be physical, having fun with what we are doing, and we want to be great teammates to each other.”
While the players say they’re attempting to foster a strong community with one another, one of the biggest goals is to show discipline and be prepared for the season according to Hebert. And defensive back DJ Collier knows what Hebert can bring to the team.
”He is doing the best he can to push us to be the most hardworking, competitive, and disciplined team in the state,” Collier said. “And I expect him to keep doing everything that he is doing with the team.”
