German Club travels to Staatskongress
February 26, 2015
The NHS German Club headed of to Staatskongress over the weekend. Staatskongress is a large convention at Ball State University that invites German Clubs from all over Indiana to gather and share their knowledge of the German language and culture.
Students are presented with many German games to play, chances to learn popular dances, and an authentic German meal. Mrs. Valerie Phillips, German two and German three teacher, alongside Mrs. Cathy Dwyer are bringing a group of Noblesville students to this event. Mrs. Phillips says they will bring about 12 or 13 students this year. They will usually bring the students and then let them go experience whatever they want individually. Students go wherever they like and learn about whatever aspect of German culture is at that activity, it really depends on the person and what they want to experience Phillips says. This years theme of Brands can show students how products and services they use everyday can be closely tied back to Germany. Phillips like this years theme because of how much it can show students how close America is to Germany, and also how many opportunities for things occupations in engineering or even medical areas will arise from them learning this language.
This year is the first year for some of the German Club students to visit this convention. One including Sophomore Kristi Stumpp. Stumpp says she is interested in meeting all the different people from all over Indiana. She hopes to gain experience in German conversational skills by talking to some of the German Ball State students who will be there. She especially looking forward to learning about and trying all the different types of food, snacks and candy they will include there. Freshman Morgan Purkey is also looking forward to bettering her German language skills. Purkey hopes to learn more about the German way of life and she hopes to see artwork while meeting other German students.
