It is said that we are preparing for jobs that haven’t been created yet. In this constantly growing technological age, that may be true. Many people have begun to find jobs for themselves right at their own computer screens. One website continuing to grow in popularity at NHS is YouTube.
YouTube is a website that allows anyone to create and share videos with each other. It was created in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, Jawed Karim and then was bought out by Google in 2006. As the YouTube fan base continues to grow in popularity, so does the opportunity to use YouTube as a career. Many students here at NHS have chosen the path of YouTube.
One student is sophomore Jack Caroselli, or known on his YouTube channel as J-Doc Studios. Caroselli enjoys making music in his free time for other people to enjoy.
“I felt like YouTube was the easiest platform to get what I do around,” says Caroselli. Caroselli makes music and does covers of songs he enjoys. Although he has 57 subscribers, Caroselli says he wants his viewers to see “the individual message from each song that I make.”
But there are many other content genres on YouTube. Senior Jacob Guenin uses his YouTube channel to let people, “get a sense of [himself].” Guenin’s YouTube channel (Jacob Guenin) was created after being inspired by a YouTube celebrity group called RocketJump. Guenin says he would watch RocketJump’s videos and think, “why can’t I do that?” And thus, his channel was born. Guenin wants his channel to gain a big enough fan base so he can pursue his dream of filmmaking. “I want to be able to move people,” Guenin says.
Guenin wants to one day continue his YouTube career into a bigger business and create more career qualifications.
“YouTube is an easy crowd to get into,” says Caroselli. According to YouTube.com, there are more than a million YouTube channels earning money. In order to earn money, you need to apply for a partnership. Guenin wants to one day grow his fan base and become part of the YouTube company or an even bigger cooperation. Regarding people who want to start YouTube channels, Guenin says you have to keep trying to better your videos. “Gotta get the bad ones out to get the good ones out,” Guenin says.
