Noblesville takes NYC

In early May, fourteen-year-old Marissa Tappy performed onstage at Carnegie Hall. This was the freshman’s second year performing at this location.

Tappy is a part of Noblesville’s freshman show choir, Sensation, and will join varsity co-ed show choir Singers next year. She performed in this year’s school musical, Fiddler on the Roof, and will be a part of Civic Theater Company’s production of Oklahoma this summer.

However, performing at Carnegie Hall was an opportunity like no other, said Tappy. There, she sang in a choir at the New York Pops 32nd Birthday Gala.

“The work level of prestige is a lot higher while performing in New York,” said Tappy. “It was nice to have a glimpse of what it would be like if I were to pursue my dreams in the show business,” Tappy said.

Ann Conrad is the second of two of Tappy’s voice coaches over the period of three years. Tappy has been under Conrad’s teaching for a little under a year.

“I really enjoy working with Marissa because she is exceptional on her natural talent and work ethic,” said Conrad. “It’s still early in Marissa’s educational journey, but I can certainly see her pursuing a musical theatre degree in college. Who knows after that! If she ends up on Broadway, I want to be in the front row on her opening night!” Tappy said.

Tappy is hoping to carry on her success in the music industry, taking her hobby and pursuing it as a career.

“I want to study musical theater in college and work at the regional level for one year, here in Indiana,” said Tappy. “Eventually, I want to move to New York and pursue musical theater there,” Tappy said.

You may not be able to see her in New York yet, but you can catch Tappy singing in Noblesville’s combined music department mega concert on Friday, May 15th or at assorted Mayfest performances on Saturday the 16th.
