Mark Boyle, the voice of the Indiana Pacers, came to Noblesville High School to speak to journalism students Wednesday afternoon during Homecoming Week.

Boyle has been the radio announcer for the Pacers since 1989.

Students in newspaper and broadcast journalism classes listened as Boyle advised them to use the school’s speech, debate, and theater programs.

“Be serious. You’re not too young to be serious. Don’t fritter away opportunities,” Boyle said. “Focus on things that will help you get to where you want to go.”

Boyle discussed the journey from college graduate to radio broadcaster, passing along wisdom he learned over the years to a new crop of potential journalists.

“Never let anyone out-work you, and don’t let anyone learn more than you,” Boyle said.

Boyle is a two-time recipient of the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year award.
