Cross Country races to improve training

The NHS Cross Country team is well into their new season, and has come back with a new plan to advance further in the competition. The team looks back on their past season, specifically, where they can improve.

“I think the team performed pretty well last season despite the fact the we couldn’t advance farther in the state tournament,” Senior runner Cole Martin said. “We accomplished a lot and showed that we had a lot of potential in the near future.”

As the team looks back on their past season, they train to improve their performance.

“This season workouts have been tougher, and as a group we have had to focus much more on doing things outside of practice such as nutrition and sleep habits,” senior Gavin Miller said. “We are expected to be better than the past few years, so we have trained harder and have more commitment than before.”

Coach Graham is hoping to push the runners harder, and help the team’s performance.

“We have to train to beat the best when we’re going up against places like Carmel, 4th best team in the country, we have to train on their level.” Graham said. “We’ve been doing considerably better, so I have high hopes for the season.”

The runners have high hopes for this season, and expect to perform better.

“This season, if all goes well, I think that we have the ability to be a top 5 team in the state, but at the bare minimum we should make it to the state meet and be in the top 15,” Martin said.

The team also has seen vast improvements from previous runners and great effort from new runners as well.

“This year we have many upper class men returning, sophomore and Junior classes this year have lots of speed and we have performed great.” Miller said.

The team has a great season ahead of them, determined and ready to outrun the other teams further than they have before.
