Plaids, sweaters and scarves, oh my!
November 20, 2015
Autumn has finally arrived. The air has turned brisk, and the colors bright. Red, orange, and yellow leaves line the streets, and the scent of smoke fills the air as bonfires blaze in backyards. Summer has since passed, and it is finally time to toss the shorts and flip-flops into the storage bin, and pull out the plaid.
Colors
Through the months of late September to early December, a very distinct color theme is seen, the most popular being tans, reds, and blacks. The color scheme on clothes worn by the fashion-forward very much matches those of the leaves on the ground, which allows the garments to give off an autumn vibe.
“My go to colors for fall are burgundy and rust,” junior Lily Searcy said.
An alternative to the warm, earthy colors are dark cool tones: an all black outfit, a gray sweater, etc., Many different fall colors correspond perfectly to any given style.
Trends- old and new
Flannel season has approached, as it does every year around this time. Oversized flannel button-ups, flannel skirts, even flannel blouses make an appearance during the fall season. This trend that has stuck around for years and does not seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
However, a new year also means new trends. Distressed tights with skirts or dresses made an awfully big appearance during this time last year, but now it is time for a new fad.
“My favorite fall trend is bringing back out scarves and hats or beanies,” senior Alesea Fritz said. “I love having tons of different ones for go-to accessories, just to accent whatever I’m wearing.”
Men’s clothing
The newest fashion trend seen in fall men’s pants is cords in various colors. Fashion-forward men have stepped out of the casual, everyday-denim look, and have put their feet into the newly discovered colored pants. This new style creates a more put-together look to any outfit. Common colors for this new trend are khaki, maroon, and grey.
With essential colors comes essential items, which, according to Senior Max Atkins, is, “…by far sweaters and flannels.”
“Guys seem to be wearing joggers a lot more,” Atkins added.
As the cold weather approaches, male students put away their chubbies and bro-tanks, and exchange them for something a bit warmer. However, there are always those few items that transfer from season to season. The easiest items to cross over to different seasons are accessories.
“No matter the time of year, a good tie will always tie an outfit together,” Atkins said.
The clothing seen throughout the hallways of NHS has shifted to warmer tops and longer pants. Autumn is here, and so is fall fashion.
