The madness returns

The madness returns

Kyle Rooker, Staff Writer

With March Madness underway, college basketball fanatics are obsessively following the teams in the annual NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Sports experts from around the country have made predictions about the outcomes, such as who will be the key players and which teams will come out on top. Well-known sports shows and websites such as ESPN and NCAA.com will be exclusively covering the tournament and the “experts” have constantly talking about why their predictions are more accurate than many NCAA fans around the country.

With the explosion of internet sports sites,  many NCAA tournament fans have started online brackets in fantasy leagues in order to gain online points and even money. More than 60 million fans are predicted to fill out online brackets this year according to CBS Sports.

And each year brings unexpected winners, ranging from fans with massive amount of knowledge about the NCAA tournament to folks with almost no basketball knowledge at all.

There are those type of fans who anxiously anticipate the March Madness tournament in order to take a shot at their predictions.

“I’ve always loved basketball whether it was college or NBA. I’ve always had an interest in it growing up when I was little,” junior Liam Parke said.

As ridiculous as it may seem, people who don’t have a lot of insight into the NCAA often select winning teams for strange reasons.

“I don’t have a clue about anything when it comes to college basketball. I just pick the winning teams based off of whoever has the cooler uniforms,” freshman Mary Childress said.

So, to see whos system works best, we’re matching up Student expert Parke, Childress the bracket novice, and Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s bracketology expert. All three will be making their picks and we will be tracking them at millermedianow.org. Who will be the NCAA bracket champ?
