In the right key

For someone as seemingly quiet as junior Aaron Keith, most would not expect a voice as powerful as his.

Keith became more involved in music after signing up for Guitar I. However, music has always been a major part of his life.

“I have some friends that who always sing around me, and I grew up with a family that sings all the time so I just picked it up over time,” Keith said, “I only become interested in singing around 2-3 years ago because I didn’t actually know I had the ability to sing until then.”

According to Keith, encouragement from his friends and family helped him to realize his talent.

“I realized I could sing when people would compliment me when I was just singing some random song. After I kept practicing and singing on my own, I got better and realized that I could actually have a shot at singing and performing.”

Keith took his first shot at performing this year at the guitar concert in January 2017.

“I heard there were open auditions to sing at the concert so I practiced and practiced until I was ready,” Keith said, “It was a great experience. I had really been anxious to finally show people what I could do. I was really nervous, but when I got up there and did it it wasn’t that scary.”

The reaction to his voice was much greater than he expected, Keith said.

“Nobody knew I could sing, so when they saw the performance or video of it they were very shocked,” Keith said.

Keith has yet to perform outside of school related events, but he intends to branch out in the future.

“I’ve been wanting to pursue music, maybe singing at events or even making music,” Keith said.

Keith hopes to have a more lasting impact with his music.

“Music benefits people as individuals because a song or artist can impact their lives so much. A song that puts off a certain message can definitely have an impact on your life,” Keith said, “It could help someone in any situation they’re in or they can just relate to it.”
