Crash and Burn

Nick Copenhaver, Staff Writer

No one thinks it will ever happen to them. Car crashes have caught students from off guard. Since the school year has started, more that five crashes ranging from dings to full on rear ends have occurred on school grounds. Though senior Micaela Menchaca says it’s due to “stupid driving,” most students say that crashes are happening more often because of overpopulation, dangerous roads and parking areas.

What’s the problem?

In the morning while students are entering the school and in the afternoon when they leave, the student parking lot is filled with student’s lined bumper to bumper trying to leave. This is a dangerous particularly because emergency vehicles cannot get to where they need to be.

Crash experience

Senior Carrie Utter has experienced this recently when she had been in a car accident on a half e-learning day. Her and three other drivers had their cars towed away. “I don’t think anyone was hurt,” said Utter, “but someone was taken away in an ambulance.” Utter and everyone else was fine, but she did have her car totaled. Utter’s take on the incident is that someone should make the roads and parking lot around the school safer.
