The Miller girls soccer team came on top in the Kokomo regional against Homestead Saturday, winning 4-0 to advance to semi-state. It’s the Millers’ seventh regional title in the sport in the past 9 years, and 13th trophy overall.
It took 28 minutes for the Millers to find the back of the net when senior and All-American forward Meredith Tippner sent a ball that just got past the Spartans’ goalkeeper to put the Millers in the lead, 1-0. Despite a strong attack to finish the first half from Homestead, the Millers kept a clean sheet due to big saves from junior Bella Wyatt.
In the second half, the Millers were able to put a cushion onto their lead. In the 52nd minute, Delaney Stone found Kaydence Fleck to make it 2-0, and it wasn’t long until the Millers caught momentum as one minute later, Stone tacked on another assist as a striking shot from Tippner hit the back of the net. The second half saw an array of attacks from the Millers, as Tippner finished her dominant day with a hat trick, as her third goal crossed the line in the 67th minute. It was her 23rd goal of the year, which ties her season best from her junior campaign last year.
The Millers (18-0-2) will attempt to stay undefeated against Penn (12-5-3) in the semi-state final at Kokomo or South Bend St. Joseph on Saturday, October 26th.
