As the chilling autumn breeze turns into a mixture of snow flurries fluttering around the atmosphere, changes in the weather across the northern hemisphere develop quickly. Christmas and many more calendar-official dates near and communities form their holiday plans, such as putting up their decorations, choosing winter vacations, and making reservations for holiday events. However, forming these plans isn’t always easy. These winter activities listed below will help you take this holiday season up a notch.
Federal Hill Commons:
Federal Hill Commons offers several different holiday activities– Holidays at the Hill, which provides ice skating, a holiday walking light tour, carriage rides, and Noblesville’s North Pole. These activities have been a big part of many NHS students’ childhoods, such as sophomore Belle Garwood.
“My favorite part about [Holidays at the Hill] was ice skating. There was just something about it that you couldn’t find anywhere else,” Garwood said.
Nickel Plate Reindeer Express:
Taking place at the Forest Park Nickel Plate Heritage Railroad, the Reindeer Express offers a special visit from Santa and complimentary cookies with hot chocolate.
Executive Director Emily Reynolds believes that the Reindeer Express is mainly focused on spreading holiday cheer.
“[The Reindeer Express] is about creating a fun, memorable experience that blends holiday magic with the charm of historic train travel,” Reynolds said.
Thrifty Gift Shopping:
To give yourself more of a challenge, try to take a thrifting approach to this year’s gift giving. Think about hitting up smaller thrift shops or the local Goodwills, where you can stop in and see if you can find something a close friend or relative might like.
Sophomore Michelle Nestander says that this time of year is perfect for gift giving, and she says that it’s fun to put a spin on it.
“I love shopping. Thrifting is also one of my favorite pastimes and combining the two sounds like a great idea for this Christmas,” Nestander said.
