Change really is the only constant — something that the end of things, especially of school years, brings to mind. These changes, ranging from the little things like a new locker location all the way to graduation, can be daunting.
On the other hand, these changes also evoke memories of the past, and it is these echoes of the past that people turn to for comfort as change sometimes seems to be coming too quickly to handle. As NHS moves into a new era — with new leadership in the administrative office and on the field, an entire new building wing, and more — remembering what this school has already given its students may help the evolution seem a bit less scary.
Luckily, NHS provides so much that no one could be too hard pressed to find something to be grateful for. Offering 30 Advanced Placement classes allows students to get a jump-start on their future while still in high school, and internship programs give students a taste of the workforce early enough to help even teenagers figure out what they want to do with their lives. But that’s just the academics.
NHS is much more than just a school. It represents and fosters a community that accepts and supports every student. With a wide range of classes and clubs, there are possibilities for everyone to find their niche.
From there, it falls to the students of NHS to be grateful and recognize all of the amazing things that the school is and does. A certain amount of privilege comes with having access to all of these opportunities, and even though it can feel easy to become jealous of what other schools may have, we can also remember all of the things that make NHS special.
And above all else, it is the people that make NHS unique. It is the people, far more than just the build- ing or the location, that make NHS what it is. While hallways may change and teachers move on, the spirit lives on in every person who shares these hallways. The upcoming changes may be difficult, they may be painful, they may have a learning curve, but they also allow us all to grow, with the knowledge that we will always have our memories to fall back on. We’ll all still be here.
Once a Miller, always a Miller.
