Pinning up for Valentine’s Day

Hayley Lipscomb

Valentine’s Day is different for everyone. The emotions range from loving the holiday to hating the holiday. As new groups of people form to celebrate Valentine’s Day such as single girls, doing a new trend called “Galentine’s Day”, all kinds of new foods and recipes spring up like love in the air. As Cupid is matching people up on Valentine’s Day, I decided to make two of these Valentines Day themed treats.

I made two recipes for Valentines Day, check out millermedianow.org to see the red velvet brownies I baked. The first recipe I made was a red velvet poke hole cake. This recipe was fairly easy considering all of the ingredients. The steps on the pin were very easy to follow and included accurate, detailed pictures for each step. After baking the cake, I simply poked holes in the cake with a straw then put on the the first layer, which was cheesecake pudding. After, I simply spread whipped cream on the cake and applied the crushed Oreos. For such a simple cake, it turned out delicious! This cake is definitely on my to do list for next Valentine’s Day.

As for complications for this recipe, I had a few that were my own fault. We only had one pan that was big enough for the cake recipe and someone else was using it so I had to wait on making the recipe. On the upper hand however, even though I had to wait, I crushed the Oreos and made the pudding so it would be ready when the cake was done. The only other set back I had when making this was the size of the holes I made. The holes I made in the cake were small because I wanted to be able to serve lots of people but by doing this, the pudding didn’t sink into the holes. For the pudding to actually set into the holes, you may have to wait for awhile or make bigger holes. Other than those small things, everything went great and tasted great.
