Junior Lexiann Hines shows her passion for swimming and her dedication to the sport

When the buzzer sounds, you jump. You dive headfirst into the chlorine- infused swimming pool with one goal in mind: victory.

Junior Lexiann Hines has had a passion for swimming for 10 years. She is known for her diligence and her drive to succeed, working her way to triumph.

“Lexi is very hard working in the water and she shows a lot of dedication,” swim coach, Richard Wolfred, said.

This will be the third year Wolfred and Hines have worked together. With the high school season beginning on Oct. 26, Hines and her teammates are looking forward to competing again.

“I’m really excited for this season,” Hines said. “I want to become a better swimmer and compete better than last year.”

Hines’s coaches say she is constantly work to improve her times in the water.

“Last year was when I noticed that Lexi started showing her determination and focused on her personal goals instead of just doing it for the social part,” Wolfred said.

Hines’s teammates have noticed her enthusiasm and acknowledge all of the effort she puts into the sport. She is mentioned as one of the most dedicated and committed members on the team according to her coach and many of her teammates.

“Lexi tries really hard and works harder than a lot of us,” sophomore teammate, Brooke Haflich said.

Like many things in life, swimming is a very mental sport. It brings out the competitiveness of a person and their drive to succeed.

“[Swimming is] a really tough workout, but it’s worth all of the effort that you put into it,” Hines said.

Aside from competitions, at the end of the day, friends are the most important part of any activity.

“I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without my teammates,” Hines said. “We’re like a family and they motivate me the most.”
