This fall, the NHS choirs have somebody new to meet:

John Neubauer. He is a musical director with 27 years of experience across the nation, and he has decided to be head choir director at NHS this year.

“At first, Noblesville seemed like a really quiet place. But once I got into the classroom, I quickly learned that the
students are full of energy,” Neubauer said.

Since he became a choir director, Neubauer has taught in countless places across Ilinois and California, from grade school to high school. He has even directed Blake Lively.

This year, he is working with four of the eight choirs at NHS.

“I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a choir director,” Neubauer said.

Sensation and New Dimension choir director Laurelen
Müller has been teaching with Neubauer in his mixed show choir, Singers.

“When I first met him, he was really professional, kind,
humble, and really open with lots of great ideas,” Müller said.

Senior Katelyn Maudlin has been in choir for all four years of high school. Now, in her last year of high school and last year in Singers, she’s acclimating to a new teacher. But according to Maudlin, it’s not too difficult.

“I like how ready he is to get things done,” Maudlin said. “It’s like whenever we enter the classroom, he is ready to get down to business, and I think it’s really beneficial to us.”

Neubauer has high hopes for the upcoming year. “Honestly, the sky’s the limit if [the students] continue to be open to new direction, and it’ll be a great year.”
