The sound of the clicking cameras, the bright flashing of lights, and the colorful outfits that walk the long red carpet. The Met Gala is the social event of the year, filled with celebrities and raising money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but it’s the designer looks that make the night memorable. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time” was filled with looks that kept everyone talking about the big event.
The theme, “A Garden of Time” was based off of the 1962 short story by J.G Ballard, which depicts the crystal time-flowers that when plucked turn back time. The morale of the story is that history is a combination of both creation and destruction. Many of the Met Gala outfits were decorated with flowers, clocks, and other elements that display the theme represented in the short story. However, some looks were more liked than others, and some left people horrified.
Best Dressed
Zendaya-10/10
For yet another year, Zendaya stunned the public with her Met Gala appearance. Wearing a long blue dress with greenery designed by Law Roach, Zendaya incorporated the garden element of this year’s theme into her look. Her dress, makeup, and hair combined became one of the memorable looks of the evening.
Elle Fanning-8/10
It wasn’t Elle Fanning’s first year attending the Met Gala, but her Balmain crystal like dress made her memorable for another year. Her glass looking dress was detailed with glass birds, alluding to the crystal flowers from Ballard’s story. Incorporating the theme into her look made her one of the fan favorites for the night.
Worst Dressed
Doja Cat-4/10
Doja Cat’s “Wet T-shirt” dress was one of the most hated outfits of the Gala. Not only did she not dress on par with the theme for the evening, her $800 outfit left viewers uncomfortable due to the see-through aspect of her dress. This controversial look left people talking about the singer even after she defended her choice by calling it “Very Poetic.”
Chris Hemsworth-6/10
Despite Chris Hemsworth’s minimalist appearance at the Met Gala, it left fans wanting more. The actor was wearing a Tom Ford beige suit that was very underwhelming compared to other looks seen that evening. The look was not related to this year’s theme and was overlooked due to its simplicity.
