For many students, prom is an event all about dressing up, eating out, and dancing the night away. However, one daunting aspect of the experience that can put a damper on the festivities is the price. Buying an outfit, and paying for dinner, transportation, flowers, and other prom essentials can get pricey. Luckily, prom-goers have many ways to get the full experience, without breaking the bank.
While some students may look for outfits that match the latest trends, others hope to find clothes that don’t cost too much. Fashion and Textiles teacher Hannah McCann has found that people are always selling their gently-used outfits for reduced prices.
“On Resale, or websites like Poshmark, people are always reselling dresses and stuff. If you wear it one time, people will sell it drastically cheaper,” McCann said.
Many students find satisfaction in making their own prom attire, rather than buying it. Senior Amy Lynn has made her prom dress multiple times, using her sewing skills to make outfits she feels are unique and special.
“There’s no point in spending so much money on something that’s only going to be one night,” Lynn said.
