After three seasons of Robert Kirkman’s “Invincible”, an electric fourth has come to a close. With the variety of twists and turns throughout this chapter of the show, I will be rating every single episode from season 4. If you have yet to watch the season, this article will have spoilers.
Episode 1: Making the World a Better Place
Season 4 starts pretty solid. We get to see Mark and Oliver help out their city, per usual. However, Atom Eve losing her powers created a big twist in the story, because as powerful as she is, she would not be able to enter battle. Another twist in the episode shows Conquest realizing that he didn’t die in his fight versus Invincible. That created a cliffhanger going into episode 2. I would give it an 8/10.
Episode 2: I’ll Give You the Grand Tour
We are reunited with Nolan Grayson, or better known as Omni Man. Who, at the beginning of the episode, is seen fighting his parents on his 18th birthday. This was a really cool flashback to Nolan’s childhood that we had yet to discover. But that was only the beginning. Thaddeus (The Betrayer), Allen the Alien and the coalition start to build their team to stop the Viltrumites. In this episode, we start to see the beginning of the war. This was the best of the first three premiere episodes. 9.1/10
Episode 3: I Gotta Get Some Air
There’s a lot more action back on earth in this episode, as well as it being one of the weaker episodes of this season. We get to see Oliver fight Mister Liu, the dragon, which he did not have a good time with, as he was weaker and inexperienced. Near the end of this episode, we find out that Atom Eve had lost her powers mainly because she was pregnant. Overall I wish we saw more of the coalition and their fight against Viltrum. 7.8/10
Episode 4: Hurm
This episode was alright, however, nowhere close to the best. Not a great amount of action, which is fine, but it felt as if there were some dead spots in this episode. For example, where Mark and Damien Darkblood are falling down a never-ending pit for what felt like a million years. The episode concluded with Nolan back on earth with Allen. Which was a good end to one of the weaker episodes of the series. 6/10
Episode 5: Give Us a Moment
Now we’re talking. From one of the worst episodes of the entire series to arguably the best. “Give Us a Moment” had everything you could ask for, but one of the best moments of not just the episode, but of the season came at the start, no action. Just amazing voice acting from Sandra Oh. Debbie refusing to give Nolan a second chance and bashing at him after he called her a pet was a great moment to see. After he left her home, this is where the war begins, as Conquest shows his incredible second fight against Mark. This was also a moment where Oliver showed his youth and how he needs to grow as well. In the end, this was a magnificent piece of cinema. 9.9/10
Episode 6: You Look Horrible
After Mark’s near death experience against Conquest, he had to be rested and fed for around two months. The coalition splits as Allen and Tech Jacket hide on a Viltrumite spaceship. After Oliver’s humiliation, Nolan was able to teach him a thing or two, which would be beneficial for him. This was a really good episode as it showed a great amount of action at the end. Including Allen’s planet, Unopa, getting obliterated by the Viltrum empire. 9.3/10
Episode 7: Don’t Do Anything Rash
A truly incredible work of art. The coalition finally makes their move toward the planet Viltrium. As they enter the atmosphere, they are sneak attacked by all the remaining viltrimites on the planet. Then we finally met Grand Regent Thragg, who is not angry after Thaedus, Nolan, and Mark completely destroy Viltrum. He almost kills the Graysons. Thragg then rips Thaedus’s head off his torso easily to avenge the former Grand Regent, Argall. Who was assassinated by Thaedus. Thragg is completely unstoppable, and that is what makes this episode unbelievable. The amount of action is impeccable, and the aura is undefeated here. I love this episode to death. 10/10
Episode 8: Don’t Leave me Hanging Here
A calm, yet intriguing episode to end season 4. The Graysons return home from their journey, but they know it isn’t over yet. Mark meets up with Eve after a long time without seeing each other. She just dealt with an abortion during her pregnancy which has taken a toll on her. But the best part came at the end. Mark believes that the viltrumites came to Earth, and they have, without destroying it. Mark and Thragg meet up in the sky for what could be the final time. Throughout this episode, Mark had gotten PTSD from Thragg, imagining he had just killed his close ones. But in reality when they meet, Thragg gives him the option of whether to let his people live on Earth, undisturbed, or to keep on fighting and completely destroy the planet for good. Invincible chooses option number one. And in my opinion, it’s the right decision especially to end off a fantastic season. It made me gain respect for both Mark and Thragg in such a tense situation. And season 4 has come to a close with yet another bang. 9.3/10
Overall: I believe this was the strongest season of the entire series. With many incredible episodes showing a great amount of action, but also a good couple of episodes with calming moments. In all, I would give season 4 of Invincible a 9.5/10.
